ABILENE MIDDAY 0629
AMBER AND AVERY

Police arrested 4 suspects at kirby lake yesterday morning on a report of shots fired plus-a group...focusing on rural healthcare...and the proposed cuts to medicade funding.which would impact many communities in our region... 3 and... all eyes pointed north for a cold front and potential heat relief!

I have some updated storm chances for your holiday weekend.

It's all coming up on abilene today.

3 good morning i'm amber treybig...joni has the morning .

Off...and i'm avery tomasco... today is thursday, june the 29th here on abilene today we have top stories and weather every ten minutes.... avery..it's not feeling too bad out there this morning...but i have a feeling that won't last...how hot are we expected to get today?

((ad-lib :45))good morning!

The winds picked up yesterday and they have not quit this morning.

We've got some extra cloud cover, south winds 10 to 20 mph, all of that leading to above normal temperatures for the most part with only the low to mid 70s out the door this morning.

These clouds this morning could bring a quick shower to the northwest of abilene early on but nothing is expected to last too long past sunrise.

In fact once the sun is up, there go our clouds and here comes ample sunshine and unfortunately our hottest day yet this week.

Highs this afternoon will hit the mid to upper 90s at best, but the low 100s to the west and northwest of abilene.

It won't feel terrible with south winds gusting up to 30 today but find a good way to stay cool!

3 3 thanks avery- we are just past the top of the six o'clock hour....and we turn now to our top story... story... today...out of our nation's capitol...the trump administration announcing that the travel restricting foreigners from six muslim- majority countries will take effect today todaythis-after the u.s. supreme court decided to temporarily uphold portions of the president's ban.... allowing the commander in chief to place a 90-day ban on forgeign travlers from iran, syria, sudan, somalia, libiya, and yemen...two senior administration officials say the ban likely won't go into effect until this evening.... however, there is no specific time for the ban to kick in... 3 3 we are continuing to follow last night's accident.... accident.... where an 18-wheeler collided with a bicyclist in south abile.

Abilene.

Here's a look at the scene from yesterday...just before four...on south first and leggett street.we do know the bicyclist was taken to hospital witnesses say the biker was conscious as they left the scene.it is unclear if the truck driver will face any char.

Charges.stick with big country home page...on our mobile app for the lastest as new details about this crash come to light.

3 3 3 and an investigation is still u.

Underway... after abilene police arrested four suspects yesterday out at kirby lake... lake... just before eight yesterday morning...police were called out to kirby lake...on a report of shots fired.when officers arrived they found a truck stuck in the mud...the suspects then took off.

3 each of the four men were later arrested.police also found a handgun.that we know was stolen.-- the suspects face various charges including misdemeanor evading arrest, unlawful carry of weapon and felony theft of a firearm.

As the investigation continues... police say more charges may be filed.

3 3 health news is continuing to make headlines across the natio.

Nation... as people are continuing to rallying against the senates recently proposed health care bill..

Let's start with the fac.

Facts...according to recent congressional budget office estimates..the proposed bill is said to leave 22-million people uninsured by 2026..but would decrease federal deficits by 312-billion dollars however--it is opposed by several gop senators..whose votes are key to the bills passing... 3 and here in the big country krbc looking in to how that may effect rural health care this group...focusing on rural healthcare...and the proposed cuts to medicade funding.which would impact many communities in our region...some saying the a lack in funding for rural medicine..and cuts to medicaide and medicare...would make it more difficult to recieve care.

<<"and, it's a danger, even if it isn't considered a rural hospital.

If it gets inindated by patients who don't have coverage, how are they going to stay open?

How are they going to operate if they don't get reimbursment through medicade and medicare for those clients..

">> 3 3 and in case you missed it yeste.

Yesterday... a new machine at hendrick medical center could be the answer to all your achy joints.

It's radiofrequency technology is minimally invasive...meani ng less pain and recovery time for patients...our jon mcmichael...finding out how this new procedure will impact the health of the big country... country...in this day and age there's a pill for almost everything, a pill to sleep, a pill to help with the restroom, and of course tons of pills to help with all sorts of aches and pains, especially chronic ones.

Chronic pain is something where sometimes the only option we have is medication.

However, it doesn't always have to be the only option.

A new procedure being offered at hendrick, which is minimally invasive, and requires no incisions might be the answer many are looking for to aid with neck, back, hip, and knee pain.

The idea is that if we can lessen your pain, you can take less of your pain medication.

Currently treatment for these areas include steroid injections, surgeries, and of course medications.

But according to hendrick, steroid shots may have to be repeated frequently, medications only provide short term reliefs and have the possibility of creating dependencies, and not everyone is eligible for surgery.

But this procedure might be the answer.

So this is a coolief radiofrequency machine, which is are big doctor words for, we can cauterize nerves that sense pain, specifically to the knee and hip to help to alleviate people's comfort.

Studies show that the pain relief can last for up to 24 months, and that's 24 months one could avoid taking medications.

The longer you're on medication, the increased chance there is for a long term complication from the medicine.

Reporting, jon mcmichael, krbc, abilene's local news.

According to hendrick, the recovery time after having the procedure done can be as short as a day.

3 but hendrick isn't the only facility recieving new technology...new health machinary is reaching cook children's pediatric center..

So now--patients won't have to travel all the way to fort worth to see a specialist.

Specialist.cook is utilizing telemedicine..so--as a patient is getting screenings or tests, all of the equipment used has cameras and what is being done is seen by the doctor on the other end of the call... telemedicine has been in use for 10 years, but it is a new feature for cook in abilene..

The hospital says patients are now able to miss fewer days of school and travel less ofter for appointments.

3 3 well, it feels like only recently school was let our for summer..

Summer..

But one abilene organization is already thinking ahead..big brothers, big sisters..

Is looking forward to the upcoming school year... year...by hosting it's 8th annual school supply drive..

The yearly event is held in partnership with prosperity bank...this year's goal-- to collect one-hundred backpacks along with plenty of school supplies to fill them...and those supplies and backpack will be given to children participating in their program.

3 <<"studies show that if students are prepared on the first day of school with backpacks an supplies and are ready to go, they're going to be more successful and we want to give every child that opportunity to be successful and start the year off right.

"> ">> the event will be held until august 8th--so-- if you would like to donate you can head to any of the prosperity bank locations ...or reach out to the organization.

3 3 well this next story -- is definitely showcasing positivity in abilene..you're not going to believe it unless you see it with your own eyes..

By victoria holt <<"hairstyles provided by backwoods barbies ">> 3 3 <<this time of year, the severe weather concerns shift from the south plains into the central and northern plains.

Yesterday was an example of that with a far reaching severe weather outbreak with tornadoes, winds and very large hail.

That's where the storm track is this time of year, way to the north of texas which leaves us high and dry, and yes very warm unfortunately.

That's your first headline with a good run of hot temperatures in the 7 day forecast.

Thrown in the mix is a cold front... not cold really, at all, but enough of a spark for a few showers and thunderstorms over the next few days.

Not a widespread issue but we'll have to dodge some inclimate weather at times.

Lets first talk temperatures... yesterday it was the low to mid 90s, today we make a good jump up on the thermometer to the upper 90s and low 100s.

Tomorrow is even hotter... ouch.

Low to mid 100s from abilene towards the west.

That cold front i mentioned is on approach late tomorrow and will try to cool us off a bit into friday night/ saturday morning but not much from it.

I'm really only talking about the cold front for the chance for storms. not likely a severe weather threat from these storms tomorrow and saturday night but just your garden variety noise makers with isolated heavy rain.

Here's how this all looks on your futurecast: sunshine all day today with a marginal return of cloud cover overnight.

Tomorrow late afternoon, few storms firing off to the north then meandering to the south.

It's about a 30 to 40% chance late friday into saturday morning, with isolated thunderstorms continuing through the day saturday.

Again, coverage will remain low but the best chance will come late tomorrow night into early saturday.

Planning on heading to the festival by the lake?

Don't cancel any plans... just know that you may need to keep an eye on the sky for a couple lingering thunderstorms right around 10 p.m both friday and saturday as the show is getting started.

Here's the rest of your forecast for today, tonight and the next seven days.
