North State prepares as next power shutoff approaches

Action News Now spoke with several people who took the time to prepare ahead of the planned power outages.

Pg&e will cut power to 800- thousand customers in 34 counties.

Good evening, i'm stephanie lin.

Tonight's shut- down starts right here in the north state.

Our reporter laura eng is live now in chico... where emergency supplies are flying off the shelves.

Laura, sounds like people are taking this shut- down very seriously.

### absolutely stephanie, we spoke with people who had carts full of water, flashlights... all to prepare for when the lights go out* i wouldn't be coming down the hill at 6 oclock in the evening to walmart.

This is the second time i've ever been in there.

Long lines at local stores as people prepare for the upcoming planned outages.

I just want to be prepared.

Dennis handy told us what he bought.

This is the drinking water.

It will last for five or six days a gallon a day and then this is one of the most important things especially when i live on cohasset, this is an analog phone that you plug in and when the power goes out, you still have electricity coming through the phone and you can talk.

Laura: i'm here at the walmart in chico where as you can see by these empty shelves, people are out there grabbing water.

Just spoke with several customers who said they're going to have to look at a different location just to be prepared in the upcoming days.

Apparently i got the last of the water off the palette the lady had just brought it out.

And we checked several other locations.

The raley's on skyway and safeway on mangrove had water aisles looking pretty similar.

Customers at the safeway gas station had long waits throughout the evening.

Number one if i lose power then i've got water gathered at my house and food, still have family at home i need to take care of.

It's to me just a matter of survival, it's a common sense.
