U.S. Marshall Service targets sex offenders in Oregon

The U.S. Marshal Service partnered with Oregon State Police, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Coburg Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies around the state to target non-compliant sex offenders, sex offenders with warrants, and high-risk sex offenders.

News at 11" we start tonight with a major operation by the u-s marshal service that targeted sex offenders here in oregon with some of those arrested in our area.

Thank you for joining us, i'm chynna greene kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is here with more details about the scope of the operation.

Chynna-- u.s marshal service partnered with oregon state police, the washington county sheriff's office.

The coburg police department and other law enforcement agencies in operation oregon trail three.

The operation lead to the arrest 52 sex offenders in lane and washington counties.

There are nearly 31 thousand registered sex offeneders in oregon and about 42 hundred non- compliant sex offenders.

From july to september law enforcement targeted those non- compliant sex- offenders sex offenders with active warrants and high risk sex offenders.

Many of those arrested were in violation of not re- registiring as a sex offender when they moved to a new area.

And chynna there was also an educational portion of the operation with law enforcement taking extra time to answer question from sex offenders and community members about the operation and the law.
