The man who crashed and killed a beloved Chico coach has been sentenced to six years in state prison.

Almost three years after ramon barrerra killed brett silva in a hit and run -- his family finally getting some sense of justice served.

Action news now's stephanie lin has been talking with the family - she shows us what happened inside the courtroom today.

Ll: a morning of emotional testimony inside the glenn county courthouse, as the silva murder trial came to a close.

Rick: there are no winners, there is just an outcome.

Family members react to friday's sentencing of ramon barrera, who pled guilty to killing beloved high school coach brett silva in 2017.

Stephanie: do you have a message for him?

Rick: i hope he gets his life together.

I know prison is not the greatest place to get your stuff together, but i hope he does.

The judge sentencing barrera to six years in state prison for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

Rick: the young man made some bad decisions.

And i hope he understands what remorse really is.

The judge said it was barrera's lack of remorse, that led to friday's sentencing.

Barrera said he did not mean for any of this to happen...and that he will feel bad for the silva family for the rest of life.

You can't go back and change what happened.

You can make a better life for him.

Friday's outcome not a win for any involved... but another step closer to closure for the silva family.
