Schumer calls on FDA to probe toxic baby food report

U.S. Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to investigate a report that found dangerously high levels of toxins in a variety of baby food.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. SENATE DEMOCRATIC MINORITY LEADER CHUCK SCHUMER SAYING: "They found in their report that 95 percent of the 168 baby foods that tested had arsenic, lead, mercury or cadmium.

Every one of them harmful to tiny little beauties like Sommers.

And we have to stop that.

Right now." The report by the nonprofit Healthy Babies Bright Futures tested popular brands including Gerber and Enfamil, and products including formula, cereal and rice puffs.

According to the report, rice-based foods and snacks were most likely to contain toxins such as arsenic.
