PG&E: It will take time until outages not needed

Take 10 years before they won't need widespread power shutoffs to prevent fire danger.

That was just one of the revelations that came out of today's emergency meeting with state regulators.

Andrea borba brings us inside.

### cpuc commissioners publicly scolded pacific gas and electric's ceo and top level execs for their handling of last week's public safety power shutoff.

Marybel batje president, california public utilities commission you said we need to get there.

You need to get there now - not at the end of the year - how many counties have you talked to since last week?

How many county managers?

Or how many direct eoc managers have you called and said "oops we blew it.

And we're gonna have a better relationship and it's going to start today" ceo bill johnson tried to fight back against the narrative that the utility giant shutoff power to "save it's own skin" he offered plans to prevent future widespread power shutoffs...but admitted under questioning - they would be years down the road.

Bill johnso ceo, pg&e the use of covered wire will stop it - it's called tree wired hardening the system.

Increased vegetation management all these things - i think eventually the technology will get us to a point where we don't need to be doing it.

What is the timeline?

So better, every year - this is probably a 10 year timeline t get to a point where it's really ratcheted down significantly.

The utility also apologized for it's communication to customers during before during and after the psps.

Mark lazzin lazzini's market 01.02.21 (5_psps north bay outage) hard to plan anything because we didn't know when stuff is going to go on you know, go online - you couldn't find anything, call the number - you couldn't get through execs said the website which repeatedly crashed - experienced 250 times it's average volume - or nearly 1.7 million hits per hour what we saw play out by pg&e last week cannot be repeated.

The state senate is also launching its own investigation.

A hearing should take place within the next few
