Madison Magazine Associate Editor Joel Patenaude is here with Weekend in the 608.

11 and the s&p 500 was off nine.

It's weekend in the six oh eight and here with a look at what's going on in the area is madison magazine associate editor joel patenaude.

Well, you can stay home and raid the kids' bags of candy or head to the high noon saloon friday and/or saturday night for freakin' halloweekend.

Each night several local bands will join eachother to perform as their favorite pop and rock stars.

On friday night you'll hear tributes to sarah mclaughlin, the cure and the doors, and on saturday, prince, culture club and elton john, among others.

But each night at 11 p.m.

Is the costume contest with big prizes at stake including cash.

Indeed.

None other than zz top, 50 years after the texas band's founding, is playing the sylvee.

Band's founding, is playing the sylvee.

Believe it or t, the blues-rock band still has it's original three members - and, presumably, two of the original beards.

Inducted into the rock and roll hall of fam in 2004, zz top is known for songs such as "sharp dressed man" and "gimme all your lovin.'" they play the sylvee on friday.

Yeah, so it's a coincidence of scheduling that not one but two adults-only comedic puppet shows are taking place this weekend.

First, tonight through saturday afternoon, is there's patchwork puppets parading on mercury at the bartell theatre.

This is a collaboration between two local theater groups, are we delicious?

And the mercury players, to write, rehearse an perform all in one week a play with puppets.

Are we delicious?

Has challenged themselves like this before to funny and edgy results.

Adding puppets only ups the ante.

Then an unrelated show saturday and sunday in the overture center's capitol theater is that golden girls show!

A puppet parody.

If you remember and long for the return of "the golden girls" tv show from the 1980s, this is the next best thing.

Roommates dorothy, blanche and rose are depicted as full-size puppets in this popular off-broadway parody.

The quick-witted saucy talk between these three women in their 60s is a loving tribute to the show.

It's not for kids in the sense that the original material is before their time and the humor manot translate.
