BJP chief JP Nadda lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal and accused it of being anti-Hindu. Speaking at the party’s West Bengal state executive meeting, Nadda said that Trinamool Congress government lifted the lockdown for Bakrid but imposed it again on the day of the Ram Temple ‘bhoomi poojan’ on 5th August. Nadda questioned the need for a lockdown on August 5th and alleged that it was done to prevent people from being part of the occasion at the local level. Nadda further said that this is politics of appeasement and added that it shows the anti-Hindu mindset of the TMC government in the state. The BJP president said that the Mamata Banerjee government’s anti-Hindu stance needs to be exposed in front of the people of the state. He said that the BJP had been making constant strides in terms of vote percentage in the state and urged people to throw away the Trinamool government in the state and bring the BJP to power. Delhi police stepped up security in and around the capital ahead of the Independence day celebration on August 15. Police were seen checking vehicles in the India gate and Connaught place region. Similar checks are also underway in other regions of the capital. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Indian Armed Forces (Tri-Service) Band gave a musical performance at the North Block. The Defence Ministry has said that the Independence Day event will be marked by musical performances by the bands from the Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force. 'These performances are intended as gestures of gratitude and appreciation of the nation towards the Corona warriors who have been steadfastly fighting to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the country even at the risk of their lives,' said the Ministry of Defence in a press statement. Military and Police Bands will also perform in Imphal, Bhopal and Jhansi on August 12. Days ahead of the foundation-laying of the new Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya, Zafaryab Jilani speaks on the status of the construction of a mosque on an alternate piece of land, as awarded by the Supreme Court in its landmark November 2019 judgment. Jilani, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said that a mosque in lieu of the Babri Masjid cannot be gifted by any party. He added that if the government had to give a piece of land, then it should have been in main Ayodhya city, instead of a spot 22 km away, which is technically part of the district which was renamed from Faizabad to Ayodhya by the Yogi Adityanath government. He said that the Babri side's legal options had been exhausted. People in large numbers took holy dip in Hoogly River on 'Mahalaya Amavas' in Kolkata on September 17. Hindu devotees performed rituals and paid homage to their ancestors for salvation of departed souls. They performed 'Tarpan', a ritual to offer water and prayers to their ancestors' soul amid coronavirus pandemic. However, social distancing norms were flouted by the people amid rising COVID cases.
