Paswan, a noted Dalit leader, was active in politics for over five decades. The RJD chief was 74. Paswan is the second union member to die in two months after Suresh Angadi died earlier in September.

The Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi passed away at Delhi's AIIMS on September 23. As per AIIMS top official, he tested positive for COVID-19. Speaking to media, BJP National President, JP Nadda said, "It is really a matter of pain for all of us. His soul will rest in peace. It is unfortunate that one of our senior leaders Angadi Ji passed away today." "Throughout his life, he worked for the welfare of people. I pray to the almighty to give strength to his family so that they can overcome this grief," he added. Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal added, "Words fail me at this time, he was an absolutely wonderful human being. It is a deep personal loss for me. He was elder to me and he always guided and supported me. Under his leadership, Indian Railways was taking many new dimensions."

In a heart-rending video, a mother dog rescued its puppy from floodwaters. The video surfaced from flood-affected Karnataka’s Vijayapura. In the video, the dog can be seen carrying the puppy in its mouth to a safe place. The flood situation continues to remain grim in several districts of Karnataka. The festival is celebrated in different ways across the country. Over the next nine days, devotees offer their prayers to Goddess Durga and observe fasts. Also known as Sharad Navratri, the festival marks Durga's victory over demon Mahishasura.

Congress, JD(S) and SDPI workers joined farm groups to protest against the farm bills, the land reforms, amendments to APMCs & labour laws. Farmer groups had given a statewide shutdown call over the issues. Protesters in Hubli were seen stopping buses as part of their protest. SDPI, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, JD(S), Karnataka Rakshana Vedike joined the stir by forming a human chain at the Ashoka Circle in Shivamogga. Some protesters were also detained by the police in Madikeri during their demonstration against the state & the central government. Apart from the centre’s farm bills, the demonstrations were against two important amendments to the Karnataka Land Reforms Act and the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act passed by the Karnataka Assembly. The protesters alleged that these laws will ruin the agriculture sector as people with moneybags will purchase agricultural land to convert their black money into white and turn agriculture land into real estate business. Fire at Mumbai’s City Centre Mall brought under control after more than 18 hours. 88 tankers and over 250 firemen were deployed at the spot in Nagpada area. Four firemen and one deputy fire officer suffered injuries. Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aadiyta Thackeray visited the area and took stock of the situation. Fire broke out at a shop in the mall at 8.53pm on October 22. The blaze escalated to brigade call (level 5) at 2.41am on Oct 23. At least 3,500 residents of a neighbouring 55-storey building were also evacuated. The cause of the fire is not known yet. Watch the full video for more.

In Delhi, shopkeepers at Lajpat Nagar market were elated with rise in customers. "With festive season starting, crowds have started pouring in. We covered 70-80% sale yesterday. We're hoping for a good weekend," said VK Gupta, VP, Lajpat Nagar Traders Association. Sarojini Nagar market also witnessed a surge in footfall as customers started thronging shops. "Customers have increased by 10-15% compared to last month. We are hoping that festive season will be good for both business and footfall," said Prem Goel, Shopkeeper. Meanwhile, shopkeepers in Bengaluru breathed a sigh of relief as their sale slightly increased during Navratri festivities.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Friday requested Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to investigate the drug connection of actor Vivek Oberoi and filmmaker Sandip Ssingh. "Bengaluru Police have come here to probe drug connection of Vivek Oberoi and filmmaker Sandip Ssingh. But NCB is not taking up the investigation. We will request NCB to investigate the drug connection and if they don't, Mumbai Police will do it," said Deshmukh. Meanwhile, the City Crime Branch (CCB), Bengaluru has served notice to actor Vivek Oberoi's wife Priyanka Alva Oberoi over links with brother Adithya Alva in connection with the Sandalwood drug case, the concerned officials said on Friday.
