‘Solutions available, political will lacking’: Kejrwal on stubble burning

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar should meet with Chief Minister of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana every month to find a solution to the menace of pollution. ‘This issue is important and cannot be handled at that level. I appealed to the centre to have monthly meetings with the Chief Ministers of UP, Delhi, Punjab Haryana regarding this issue, and work in a systematic and dedicated manner with fixed deadlines,’ Kejriwal added. Kejriwal also said that he does not agree with Javadekar’s claim that it would take at least 4 years to tackle pollution. He said that India’s engineers and scientists have found ways to curb stubble burning but there is a lack of political will to implement those steps. ‘Stubble is a huge liability right now. We can convert it into an opportunity. There is only one condition: Do we have the political will? Or will we politicise this as well?’ he asked. Kejriwal said that many factories in Punjab use stubble to produce coal and even pay farmers for it. Watch the full video for all the details.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that he has written a letter to Union Ministry of Education seeking an amendment in Act to open new colleges and universities in Delhi. He said, "Why are the admission cut-offs so high in Delhi? It is so because there is a huge lack of colleges and universities in Delhi, while the number of students is increasing. We need many more colleges and universities here." "The Delhi University Act made during the British era states that a new college needs to be affiliated with Delhi University. I've written to the Minister of Education seeking to amend the Act so that new colleges and universities can be opened in Delhi," he said.

‘Urge Centre to amend Delhi University Act’: Kejriwal on high cut-offs

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Centre needs to amend the Delhi University Act to ensure that more colleges and universities can be opened in the capital. The Delhi Chief Minister referred to the high cut-off marks of some colleges in the capital and said that there is an urgent need to build new colleges. With cut-offs touching 100%, what will happen to students who secure 70%, 80%, 85%, 90%? The problem is that the number of seats in colleges and universities in Delhi has failed to keep pace with the increase in the number of applicants,’ Kejriwal said. He further added that around 2.5 lakh students in Delhi pass class 12 board exams every year and only about 1.25 lakh get admission in city colleges. Arvind Kejriwal said that he has written to the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank seeking amendments in the DU Act so that more colleges and universities can be established in the city.
