Heavy rainfall lashes several parts of Karnataka, IMD issues alert

Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Karnataka on September 20.

State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has issued alert of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over coasts and parts of Malnad regions of Karwar.

The Indian Meteorological Department has also issued an alert to stop all fishing activities near the coast.

Incessant rainfall led to water logging in several low lying districts of Karnataka.

The festival is celebrated in different ways across the country. Over the next nine days, devotees offer their prayers to Goddess Durga and observe fasts. Also known as Sharad Navratri, the festival marks Durga's victory over demon Mahishasura.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert in Hyderabad, as the city continue to witness heavy rainfall. "Yesterday night, Hyderabad city had received heavy rainfall from thunderstorm, we are monitoring Hyderabad in high priority. Monsoon is very active here, we have new system forming over east central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours, it will move west or north-west. Costal Andhra Pradesh, South Odisha and Telangana are under over monitoring 24*7, we have given orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall," said Senior Scientist, Rajendra Kumar Jenamani. Several people have lost lives in Hyderabad as heavy downpour triggered flood-like situation in Hyderabad.
