Indian Army organizes Shikara race on Srinagar's Dal lake

Indian Army organized Shikara race in Srinagar on September 20.

The race was organized in the world famous Dal Lake to promote Srinagar's tourism.

Around 15 Shikaras participated in the race.

Commanding Officer 20 RR, Colonel Praveen Kumar said, "This is our annual event, every year we organize Shikara race, and from past few years we have been organizing boat race for children too.

But due to coronavirus, we could not do that this year.

But as situation is comparatively better now, in order to promote tourism Shikara union organized the Shikara race."

It's my appeal- If you've picked up arms and shot a video, doesn't mean you are a terrorist, you can come back."

Members of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration held a meeting in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar on October 24. The meeting was held at PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's residence, and attended by her former rivals Farooq and Omar Abdullah. The six political parties part of the alliance are National Conference, People's Democratic Party, People's Conference, Awami National Conference, People's Movement, and Communist Party of India-Marxist. Militancy not one-way route, will welcome your return: Top Army Commander's appeal

Indian Army has reiterated that it will welcome those local militants in Kashmir who choose to shun the path of violence. General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps Lieutenant General BS Raju on October 26 appealed to the misguided youth to shun militancy, which he said was not a "one-way route", adding that Army will welcome those wanting to return to mainstream. Lieutenant General Raju made the appeal while talking to reporters on the sidelines of Yusmarg festival in Budgam district of central Kashmir. "I appeal to youth who are ready to shun militancy to return to their homes as the environment is favourable for them for starting a peaceful and dignified life," Lieutenant General Raju told reporters at Yusmarg Mela organised by Army and was attended by some 3500 people of all age groups. Numerous events were organised at the mela which included sports and cultural programs catering to the interest of youth who said they enjoyed participating in the mela hosted by the Army.

Cycle race in Srinagar spread message of peace, togetherness

India is a country that carries in its abode, incredible stories of peace and brotherhood. Visuals of a Muslim celebrating Diwali and a Hindu observing Eid often make rounds on social media here. Celebrating this unity and togetherness between various communities along with promoting a healthy lifestyle, a cycle race was recently organized in Srinagar city of Jammu and Kashmir. Carrying the message of peace, brotherhood and happiness, around 500 youngsters in Srinagar pedalled their way on the banks on Dal Lake. Named as 'Pedal for Peace', the race was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police and was first in more than a year following months of restrictions after the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019 and then COVID-19 induced lockdown from March this year, in the valley. Along with promoting the spirit of togetherness, the event also aimed to inculcate a healthy lifestyle among the youngsters as they are future of the nation as well as the 'Change makers'. The event included races for sub-junior boys and girls, junior boys and girls, senior men and women and veteran men. The Union territory's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha was the chief guest during the event. He appeared all enthused to witness such a huge participation of youth and later distributed prizes among the winners at Police Golf Course in Srinagar. Events like 'Pedal for peace' not just play a crucial role in creating awareness about health but also help in strengthening the bond of oneness among people no matter which caste or community they belong to.

But with the upgradation of the water sports center located in Dal Lake, aspiring players can now now hone their skills with world class equipments including boats and jetties. More importantly, the long pending demand of a high tech boat shed has also been met. Water sports players are happy with the new changes and said they are now looking to compete with national and international players.
