BJP leader Smriti Irani launched a scathing attack on Congress and accused it of using farmers and their issues for its benefit.
Comparing the previous Congress government at Centre with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, she said that people have learned that only a 'sevak' can dedicate himself\herself for the development of the nation and those who are willing to become self-reliant will have to walk with PM Modi.
Irani was in Morbi to campaign for BJP candidate Brijesh Merja.
Morbi is one of the eight assembly constituencies in Gujarat, where bypolls will be held on November 3.
Union minister Smriti Irani took on All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi over the issue of 'love jihad', a conspiracy to convert Hindu women as alleged by some Hindutva groups. A day earlier, the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh promulgated an ordinance to nullify marriages solemnised with the primary purpose of converting the bride. It also has provisions to punish 'unlawful' religious conversion. Other BJP-ruled states like Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka are also mulling similar laws. Owaisi had called the law violative of the Constitution and a diversionary tactic by BJP. Irani said all Indians should hail legislation aimed at protecting women and their rights. 'It seems the centre is not going to spend on vaccines and is only going to issue guidelines. States like ours will do their bit. The Union government has to make it clear whether it is making vaccines available for free to states and if not what will be the share of expenditure between centre and states. Five people died after a fire broke out at Uday Shivanand COVID Hospital in Gujarat's Rajkot. The incident occurred during the wee hours of Nov 27. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered a probe into the incident. More details are awaited.
