Eastern Naval Command (ENC) Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral AK Jain said that the focus of the Indian Navy is on maritime domain awareness considering the security threat in the Indian Ocean Region. ”Security threat in the Indian Ocean out at sea has gone up. So our entire focus has been on maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean Region. We maintain surveillance with P-8Is, Dornier aircraft and helicopters 24x7. We are getting four more P-8Is,” said AK Jain on the occasion of Navy Day. President Ram Nath Kovind extended his wished on the occasion of Navy Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the world is keeping a close watch on the cheapest and safest Covid-19 vaccine and hence they are looking at India. PM Modi said that healthcare workers, frontline workers and elderly people will be vaccinated on priority. He was addressing an all-party meet to discuss Covid situation in the country. Last week, PM Modi had visited Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune to review vaccine development. India's novel coronavirus tally on Friday, December 4 went over 9.5 million. Around 36,595 fresh cases and 540 deaths were added in the last 24 hours. Tally includes 416,082 active cases, more than 9 million recoveries and 139,188 deaths.

Congress senior leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury reacted on all-party meet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the COVID-19 situation. Questioning Centre's leadership, he said that there's no roadmap for vaccination of normal people. "It (govt) stated that those who need to be vaccinated will be vaccinated but who's going to decide this? No plan was discussed how the vaccine will be given to the poor, during all-party meet," he said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh slammed Pakistan without naming it. He said that Nations who can't defend its sovereignty, their condition is like India's neighbouring country. "Countries who fail to protect their sovereignty become like our neighbouring nation-who can't build their roads on their own, nor walk on them, not even have trade on their own or stop someone from trading," he said. As border tension with China stretches on, the Government of India announced its decision to dedicate the month of December to the country's armed forces. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on December 02 informed that centre and states along with Sainik Board will celebrate 'Armed Forces Flag Day' throughout December. "It's our national responsibility to support families of our security personnel, who have lost their lives or suffered injuries in the line of duty," said Singh.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh performed 'shastra puja' or customary worship of weapons, at Sukna War Memorial in West Bengal. He also paid tribute to martyrs and laid a wreath at the memorial. Singh was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane. Speaking on the sidelines, the minister said that India wants peace at the border with China, but the country's soldiers won't let even an inch of land be captured by enemies. Later, he inaugurated an alternate alignment road to NH 310 built by the Border Roads Organisation in Sikkim. The inauguration was done via video conferencing. Schools outside containment zones reopened in states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Sikkim from today. Students have to wear masks and practice social distancing inside & outside school premises. Students will also need written permission from parents to attend classes. Thermal scanning was conducted outside the school premises and social distancing was maintained inside classrooms as well. Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh on December 03 confirmed the presence of three Chinese warships in the Indian Ocean region since 2008 for anti-piracy patrols. "We have an SOP to tackle the situation if there is an infringement (by Chinese research vessels). The Navy's activities are in close coordination and synergy with the Indian Army and Indian Air Force." He further said, "We have deployed the P-8I aircraft at various locations on the requirement of Army and Indian Air Force. In addition, we have deployed the Heron surveillance drones on the northern borders. As of now, three Chinese warships are in the Indian Ocean region. The Chinese have been maintaining three ships since 2008 for anti-piracy patrols."
Indian Army organised a free medical camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. Large numbers of local residents came here along with their children and senior citizens. Besides medical check-up, medicines and wheel chairs were also provided to the people. Locals lauded the Indian Army for organising a medical camp. "I am thankful to the Army, they have organised a free medical camp for us," a local told ANI.
In a humanitarian gesture, Indian Army soldiers were seen helping a new mother in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara. The woman was carried on a stretcher along a snow-covered road in Lolab.
