A man is in custody after police say he held up in a terre haute hotel room for several hours.
News 10's bri shackelford has more on what police are saying *and reaction from the public who watched the confrontation play out.

Bri at rovin} according to terre haute police... this all started between midnight and 1 in the morning.
Police were called for a "welfare check" at the "pear tree inn."
V} this is on u.s. 41 near interstate 70.
Police say the man pointed a gun at his girlfriend before barricading himself inside his hotel room.
The "special response team" and hostage negotiators worked through the night.
It was the s-r-t who took the man into custody.

Now... i spoke with kenneth pettus who was staying at the "drury inn & suites" next door.
He says he saw people -- who were staying at the "pear tree inn" get moved to his hotel when the incident took place.
So} "it kind of hurts because, you know he put all these people's lives in jeopardy, my life, my friends life.
All these people, they had to leave, and for what reason."
Bri at rovin} the man at the center of this case was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before moving on to the county jail.
No other injuries were reported.
